This year, we gave up 40+ points four times. We gave up 40+ points a total of four times from 1969-2007. That's the entirety of the Bo/Moeller/Lloyd years.
Anon, I like your faith and enthusiasm. And I agree that RichRod should be given time (the offense was terribly inexperienced).
But Shafer was handed an experienced and talented defense. The D-Line was better on paper than the 2006 one and two out of four members of the secondary were fifth-year seniors. There is no excuse for the play on D, especially all of the gigantic plays given up. I'm all for RichRod but I think the sooner we get rid of Shafer the better.
Their avg TOP was 27:38 to 32:22 which multiplied over 12 games comes out to 331:33 and 388:19 or roughly the other team had the ball 57 more minutes this season. These numbers were also bolstered in a few games by incredible long drives by MI (amazing) or the incredibly inept Toledo offense. In any game that mattered this year the TOP was extremely lopsided. No defense can expect to perform under those circumstances.
fyi the 2007 defense gave up over 2000 yards rushing in 12 games last year. not 13 games as notre dame had -7 rushing yards, for an average of 169.7 yards rushing per game. the defense from last year had the luxury of a very effective offense which held the ball enough to limit the defense's limitations but the numbers don't lie.as an example the michigan offense had over 400 yards offense in both the app. st. and oregon games yet the defense allowed over 30 points in both games. the personnel has not been there on the defense for the last 2 years.

We were ditchraped today. OSU lifted up our skirts on the side of US-23 and ditchraped us.
Also, if by "Scott Shafer" you mean "DickRod," then DP approves this message.

What's the year's time of possession look like? I think that will go a long way to explain things as well.
